The Nominees for 2023's Open Mic'ers Guest of the Year Are...
We here at the Open Mic'ers Podcast pride ourselves on having some of the best guests in the game, and this year we're going to pick the best of the best. There are five nominations for our year end Guest of the Year award, with the winner receiving a specially made t-shirt, the enumerated opportunity to appear on any Open Mic'ers episode they want in 2024, and of course a rotisserie chicken. Below we are going to reveal our nominations to the public for the very first time, and the winner will be decided by our Patreon community and announced at the beginning of 2024.
Mo Alexander
Mo Alexander (seen here riding a giant possum, because of course he is) has grown to become a very good friend of the show, and is without a doubt the greatest guest in Open Mic'ers history. Every episode Mo is on translates to countless TikTok clips and hilarious moments, and it's sometimes hard to keep up with his constant witty banter. Mo appeared on the podcast twice this year with both episodes becoming instant classics in our eyes. Will our Patreon supporters see it fit to give our GOAT guest the best guest of the year award? I don't know, but I'm sure the rotisserie chicken would mean a lot to him.
Tyler Arceneaux
Another no-brainer for us to nominate was Louisiana comedian Tyler Arceneaux, who came on our show twice this year with a third time scheduled for December 4th. Tyler made his debut on our podcast after we met at the Stoned vs. Drunk vs. Sober showcase, where we both admired each other's sets and created a drunken bond that will last until one of our premature deaths. While his debut episode was more of a technical look at the art of comedy, Tyler's second appearance generated one of the most memeable moments in the show's history, and he has demonstrated a chemistry with me and Jason that is hard to duplicate with many of our interviews. Once again, I bet that rotisserie chicken would really mean a lot to him too.
JP Leonard
The entire reason we're even giving away a rotisserie chicken at the end of the year is because of JP Leonard's hilarious interruption of my bird story, and that moment alone was and should be enough to snag a nomination. JP came on once in 2023 (with another scheduled for December 4th with Tyler), but he filled that podcast with so many puns and funny interjections that it turned him into one of our all-time favorite guests. Now it's his turn to catch a rotisserie chicken, karma!
Wally Phelps
The guest with the most appearances in our show's history (starting with episode 2), and one of the only people that we've trusted to fill in as a co-host, Wally Phelps is undoubtedly deserving of this nomination every year. In 2023, Wally has served as a regular guest, a guest on our special Patreon series Headliners, and most importantly to me, he filled in as a guest co-host the week after my father died. Wally has always been one of the biggest supporters of our show and one of the people we can rely on to fill in for us on short notice, and he's more than deserving to be in our first class of nominees.
Sam Tallent
While the other four entries on this list were handpicked by me and Jason, we let our fans choose the final one, and they overwhelming showed some love to Sam Tallent. Does Sam want to win this award, and does he even know that he's nominated for it? No. Would he even want to come back on our show? Probably not. Despite all of this, we're still going to send him that rotisserie chicken if our Patrons deem it so, and there's no doubt in the fact that Sam's episode with us was the universal fan favorite of 2023.
The winner will be announced on the first Open Mic'ers episode of 2024.
