Kill Tony is unlike any other comedy podcast on the circuit, with a strongly opinionated fan base and a large universe of comics. Whether it's a favorite recurring bucket pull, panelist, or paid regular, the fans of the show have a lot of passion when it comes to who they want to see more of on the show. Although there appears to be the same three regulars for the foreseeable future of the show right now, there is no telling when William Montgomery might retire, Hans Kim might lose a challenge for his regularship, or Kam Patterson might move on to bigger ventures. In any case, here are some of the universe's staple comics that I think should become the next paid regular.
1. Heath Cordes
Heath Cordes has been the best discovery on Kill Tony in the last year, winning a Golden Ticket and even getting the chance to perform in theaters and an arena thanks to his KT fame. Hailing from Huntsville, AL, Heath took the entire Kill Tony universe by st0rm with his first minute on the show, and it's clear that Tony Hinchcliffe, Adam Eget, and many other people are high on his potential to become a star. While Hans Kim and William Montgomery have experience headlining clubs on their own, someone like Heath could actually improve themselves by doing a new minute every week, and it's entirely likely that we could see him step up if another regular retires.
2. David Jolly
Gang violence! Perhaps the most viral moment since Kam's interview on the 10th anniversary show, David Jolly became an instantly classic member of the Kill Tony roster. Much like Patterson, Jolly moved from Orlando to Austin in order to pursue comedy, and instantly found success, appearing on the show regularly while also working as a door guy at the Comedy Mothership. I think if and when Kam Patterson gains too much popularity to be on KT anymore, David Jolly is the clear choice to replace him.
3. Celia Contreras
You can gauge success on Kill Tony in many ways, usually in the form of a big joke book or getting the Secret Show, but something happened to Celia Contreras this year that has rarely ever happened in the show's history. Celia crushed so hard that not only did she get the Secret Show, she got asked to open for Tony Hinchcliffe in a theatre, and even got asked to open for Roseanne Barr on some of her tour dates. Being so charismatic in her interviews as well as her stand-up, Celia could have a lot of success as a regular, especially since she is still growing and learning as a favorite on the Austin scene.
4. Uncle Lazer
Much like Hans Kim, Uncle Lazer has been a polarizing figure among Kill Tony fans, being either loved or hated depending on the night. However, Lazer is completely unique and undeniably funny, as exemplified by his ability to sell out shows across the country. With his own social media following and a story teller style that's not usually seen on the show, I think Uncle Lazer could be a breath of fresh air as a regular.
5. Casey Rocket
Casey Rocket is unlike any other comedian at The Comedy Mothership or on Kill Tony, and he's the only comedian in the show's history to be given a pass to do over a minute set. Based in physical comedy, Rocket's style has many callbacks and repeated phrases that needs time to work, and Tony Hinchcliffe has been more than happy to give him that room to work. Once William Montgomery retires, I couldn't think of any other comedian that would be able to step up and close every show with a bang more than Casey Rocket.
